Sam,

This is great! I really want the kind of software you describe. Your post is three years old, so ... does productivity/to do list/task management software-as-a-game exist yet? If you could point me to some examples, I'd love to know!

Thanks.

After I scrolled down the HTML5 storyboard, I had one reservation about whether or not to sign up for the beta invite. There was nothing that screamed out "authenticity" and I was left wondering whether the site was a scam or the stealth thing was for real. To overcome my concern, I had to go do a Google search on Sam Lawrence just to make sure. A second thing was the UI for the signup. My first thought was that I was being asked to copy and past in my LinkedIn profile URL. After trying several URL variations, I decided to try and authenticate the normal way. I know you're trying to communicate graphically that the user is authenticating with LinkedIn. I see that now. I'm thinking, however, there are some other people out there who may have never authenticated to LinkedIn. Perhaps have "Email" appear in the actual entry field until the user begins typing?

Jive is the leader in sbs. You need to install the software to see how useful
it is to an organization. We used to use pure IM system from Akeni but we
needed more social network features. The only advantage of the Akeni Social
sofware is that it is .NET based, therefore if you have .NET, you can install
the software quite easily. But jive has better mobile device support.

One of the issues that faces companies doing this, though, is that the initial step is pretty high. The leading social business software provider (your ex-employer) is riding high on a proprietary business model. To date, that's been enterprises' only choice.

Proprietary business models, however, are highly vulnerable to strong open source projects. Until now, the Drupal project is a strong project - but has lacked a social software OOTB solution. But, that has changed.

Drupal Commons is now an OOTB social community solution that's functionally equivalent to the leading contenders. This provides a strong open source alternative - along with all the freedoms that come along with open source.

I'd be interested in your thoughts as to how this can change enterprise adoption of social business software - whether it will speed it, etc.

Thanks
-jb

Hi Sam. Thanks for teeing up this great smack-upside-the-head for all the e2.0 astronauts converging on Boston this week :-)

"this is a category that REQUIRES enterprises to understand and embrace an extremely significant change in their behavior"

The CIO might love the ideals of e2.0. But I'm guessing after hearing a rep say something like that, the CIO would probably respond w/something like... "So for this to be worth it I need to give my company a lobotomy?"

Meaningful e2.0 projects get off the ground in larger enterprises only after sponsors & management have some comfort level in knowing that the changes will be incremental, manageable - that they will complimentary to the "the pragmatism of the workplace".

The "extremely significant change" mantra is part of the secret sauce that I would keep under my hat - and draw inspiration from every day.
