Nearly half of Americans make edits to their photos, from adding filters to cropping. However, it takes a little more than your smartphone camera’s edit feature to make major changes like removing and replacing a whole background.
If you have ever taken a great selfie but the background is unappealing do not delete it, save it.
Read on to learn how to change your background on a photo app.
1. Decide to Change Background
Your first step before you change background images is to decide that you do not want them. If you are not sure whether changing the background will make the photo better then save a copy of the original. This will allow you to return to it if you make a mistake or decide that the photo looked better before making edits.
2. Select Background
Next, you want to use a photo app that allows you to select the background. Some apps auto-detect the background and select the entire section. Other apps have various select tools to trace or click on the areas that you want to replace or delete.
Decide if you want to remove the entire background or just sections. Also, consider if you want to delete the background, alter it, add another image, or replace it with a plain color backdrop.
3. Adjust or Erase Background
After you select the photo background you can either use a background remover or adjust its settings. If you remove the background then you can use the redo button to try out different backgrounds to see which one looks the best.
Adjusting your current background may be all you need. The tone, lighting, filter, or focus may be edited depending on the app you are using.
4. Replace or Combine Background
There are many picture background options to choose from when replacing your background image. Some apps may have a library of backgrounds, from photos to graphics. However, other apps might only allow you to choose a solid color or make the background transparent.
You can always remove the background in the app and then use a photo editor to add your own image or create an original design. Making the background transparent is also a great option to play around with the background in another design program.
A transparent background also works if you want to combine this photo with another one. You can superimpose the image onto another background to create a whole new image.
5. Save New Photo
Once you have removed the background or replaced it then you want to save it as a new photo. Rename it to keep it unique and separate it from your original.
